Interview Exclusive: Behind the Beats with Wizkid – The Starboy Unfiltered

In a rare and intimate sit-down, global Afrobeats sensation Wizkid takes us Behind the Beats—giving fans a deeper look into his creative process, growth, and vision for the future. From his early days in Surulere to selling out arenas around the world, Wizkid’s journey is the stuff of legend.

But today, we go beyond the fame to uncover the mind of the Starboy.

🎵 Q: Wiz, you’ve been at the top for over a decade. What keeps you motivated in 2025?

Wizkid:
Man, it's the love. The love for music, the culture, the people. I wake up grateful every day that I get to do what I love and still push boundaries. I'm not in competition with anyone—I’m in competition with myself. That’s what keeps me going.

🌍 Q: You’ve taken Afrobeats global. How do you balance staying true to your roots while evolving your sound?

Wizkid:
I’m a Lagos boy forever, you get me? So that energy, that rawness—it's always there in the music. But as I grow, I listen to different sounds, meet different people. It’s all about growth. But the essence remains Naija. Always.

🎶 Q: Walk us through your studio process. How does a Wizkid hit come to life?

Wizkid:
Sometimes it starts with a beat, sometimes it’s just a vibe. I don’t overthink it. I might be chilling, light something, hear a melody, and boom—we’re recording. I love to create in the moment. No pressure, just vibes.

🔥 Q: You've collaborated with Drake, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber… who’s next on your dream collab list?

Wizkid:
Honestly? I wanna make a joint project with Burna. Two African giants on one tape—no skips. I also really wanna work with Rihanna. Let’s give the people that Caribbean-Afrobeats fusion. Mad energy.

🧠 Q: You've built an empire with Starboy Entertainment. What’s your vision for the label in the next few years?

Wizkid:
We’re building stars. Not just artists, but producers, creatives, designers—full culture impact. I want Starboy to be a launchpad for young African talent who need that light. Not just in Nigeria, but across the continent.

💰 Q: Let’s talk legacy. You’ve achieved so much. What do you want the world to remember Wizkid for?

Wizkid:
I want them to say, “He changed the game.” That I helped bring African music to the world without compromising the sound. And more importantly—that I did it with love, with vibes, and with my people in mind.

👀 Q: Any hints on what’s next for Wizkid in 2025? New album? Tour? Fashion?

Wizkid:
You already know I move in silence—but yeah, a new project is coming. Something fresh, something different. I’m also working on some fashion collaborations and a documentary that tells my story in my own words. Stay locked in.

🌟 Final Thoughts:

Wizkid isn’t just behind the beats—he’s building the blueprint. From his authenticity to his business mind, he continues to set the pace for generations of artists coming after him.
